Ouragahio assesses its women’s empowerment policy

Gagnoa, July 6, 2026 – The Ouragahio municipal council, under the leadership of Mayor Dr. Pierre Dacoury-Tabley, recently conducted a comprehensive review of its women’s empowerment policy. This evaluation took place during a special tribute event for the commune’s women, often referred to as ‘Mother’s Day,’ which was presided over by local sub-prefect Tié-Bi Assi Apo Josiane on Saturday, July 4, 2026, within the town hall courtyard.

The initiatives scrutinized encompassed a range of vital areas. Efforts included foundational literacy programs and essential basic accounting training specifically tailored for women entrepreneurs. Furthermore, the policy prioritized maternal and child healthcare, alongside expanding maternity and health centers across the entire communal territory. Mayor Dacoury-Tabley emphasized that the primary objective was to ensure mothers remained in good health, enabling them to actively pursue and implement actions vital for their own empowerment.

In the realm of commerce, Dr. Dacoury-Tabley highlighted the ongoing construction of a multi-store gastronomic complex. This new facility is designed to provide a dedicated space for women to showcase their culinary talents and the quality of their gastronomic offerings, with the ultimate goal of helping these mothers earn a sustainable livelihood from their skills.

Beyond commerce, the empowerment strategy also integrates agricultural projects. Women involved in farming receive crucial support, including the provision of agricultural workers and laborers to assist them in their fields.

Additionally, Dr. Dacoury-Tabley explained the establishment of school canteens in every educational institution, which are regularly supplied by the produce cultivated by the commune’s dedicated women farmers. These women, who are direct beneficiaries of projects planned and funded by the Ouragahio municipality, are responsible for both producing and processing the food consumed in these canteens. To further boost female entrepreneurship, the municipal council has also streamlined the process for women to set up businesses by significantly reducing taxation.

During the gathering, Mayor Dacoury-Tabley personally distributed gifts to each of the 600 mothers present, who had traveled from various neighborhoods and the 11 villages within the Ouragahio commune. The first magistrate of the commune expressed his satisfaction, stating, “When women come together, it facilitates collective reflection, fosters a positive working environment, and most importantly, enhances overall effectiveness.”
