Niger security talks focus on AES cooperation during Niamey visit

Niamey, July 27, 2026 – High-level discussions among leaders of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) continue alongside commemorations marking the third anniversary of the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland (CNSP) taking power. Today, the Minister of State for Interior, Public Security, and Territorial Administration, Major General Mohamed Toumba, welcomed Bassolma Bazié, President of Burkina Faso’s National Commission for the AES Confederation, for an official meeting.

Bazié, in Niamey to participate in the anniversary events, paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Interior. The discussions provided an opportunity for both officials to address pressing challenges facing AES member states.

Enhancing security cooperation within the AES framework

During the meeting, Bazié commended the Nigerien authorities for their proactive security measures. He highlighted the country’s efforts to protect its citizens and bolster regional stability, both within Niger and across the confederation’s territory.

The discussions underscored the shared commitment of AES member states to deepen collaboration in addressing common threats. Security remains a cornerstone of the confederation’s agenda, with plans to strengthen coordinated responses to regional challenges.
