N’Djamena’s Hilton discharge site faces urgent repairs to avert flood crisis
The mayor of N’Djamena visited the critical Hilton discharge site to coordinate its immediate repair, a crucial step in preventing potential flooding.
On Thursday, May 28, 2026, the mayor of N’Djamena, Mr. Sanoussi Hassana Abdoulaye, led a significant delegation to inspect the damaged Hilton discharge site. This visit was paramount for coordinating crucial flood prevention efforts in the Chadian capital.
During the inspection, Mr. Gadengar Roasna Rodrigue, the director of urban planning for the central municipality, emphasized the strategic importance of the Hilton discharge site for N’Djamena. He explained that this facility is vital for channeling rainwater away from the city and into the river. Conversely, it also plays a critical role in preventing river waters from inundating the city during periods of high flow.
Currently, the structure has sustained minor damage, particularly its protective flap, which is essential for guarding against riverine flooding. Despite this, Mr. Rodrigue assured the public that several preparatory activities are already in motion to bolster the city’s resilience as the rainy season approaches.
Responding to the situation on site, Mayor Sanoussi Hassana Abdoulaye issued unequivocal directives to the road department. He demanded that all necessary measures be implemented to ensure the swift repair of the damaged protective flap within the coming days, underscoring the urgency of the task for N’Djamena flood prevention.
