Liverpool’s transfer strategy has taken a sharp turn following the news that Yan Diomande, their top target, is poised to join Paris Saint-Germain instead of the Premier League. With Mohamed Salah’s future hanging in the balance, the Reds are now shifting their focus to another Paris-based attacker: Bradley Barcola.
Diomande’s move to Ligue 1 appears inevitable
The 19-year-old winger, who has already made waves with a standout World Cup performance, is on the verge of signing with PSG. Despite RB Leipzig’s initial hefty valuation, the German club’s demands cooled Liverpool’s interest, prompting the Reds to abandon pursuit. The Parisians, meanwhile, are confident of securing a swift deal, ending a transfer saga that has dominated the summer.
Barcola emerges as Liverpool’s preferred replacement
With Diomande off the table, Liverpool’s scouting team has redirected its attention to Barcola. The 23-year-old French international has become a top candidate to replace Salah, especially after the club’s successful signing of Victor Munoz from Osasuna. Barcola’s profile fits the project well, though his current situation at PSG adds complexity to the equation.
Despite his undeniable talent, Barcola has grown increasingly frustrated with limited game time, particularly missing out on critical matches like PSG’s Champions League final victory over Arsenal. The uncertainty surrounding his role under manager Luis Enrique could push the club to consider offers this summer.
PSG may be forced to cash in on Barcola
While PSG has no immediate intention of selling, Barcola’s contract expires in two years, leaving the club with a narrow window to secure a substantial fee. Though the Parisians won’t let him go cheaply, they won’t stand in his way if a competitive bid materializes. Arsenal has been mentioned as a potential destination, but Liverpool’s determination to test PSG’s resolve could make them the most serious suitor.
Barcola’s impressive track record at PSG
Since joining PSG in the summer of 2023 for €45 million, Barcola has made 152 appearances, scoring 39 goals and providing 37 assists across all competitions. His trophy haul includes two Champions League titles and three Ligue 1 championships. On the international stage, he has also contributed to France’s World Cup campaign, netting against Senegal and setting up a goal against Norway.
