Gabon Economic Forum: a platform for economic transformation
The second edition of the Gabon Economic Forum (GEF) kicked off with a bold vision: to position Gabon’s private sector as the engine of national development. Held at the Palais des Congrès, the event brought together policymakers, business leaders, and international partners to address the country’s economic challenges and opportunities.
Private sector as the backbone of progress
Alain Claude Kouakoua, President of the Gabonese Enterprises Federation (FEG), emphasized the critical role of strong businesses in driving economic growth. In his opening address, he declared, “Tomorrow, I want the FEG to be recognized not just as a defender of enterprises, but as a catalyst for their success.”
Kouakoua underscored that no nation has achieved sustainable development without robust private enterprises. He argued that businesses are not peripheral actors but the very foundation of economic progress. His remarks set the tone for a forum focused on unlocking Gabon’s potential through industrialization and economic diversification.
Government commitment to private sector support
Vice-President of the Republic, Hugues Alexandre Barro Chambrier, reinforced the state’s commitment to private sector growth. In a statement laced with determination, he assured, “The government will fulfill its role by ensuring fiscal reforms and timely financial settlements for private enterprises.”
The forum’s agenda reflects a shared ambition: to reduce Gabon’s reliance on raw material exports and transition toward a more industrialized, diversified economy. By fostering dialogue between the public and private sectors, the GEF aims to create an enabling environment where businesses can thrive and contribute meaningfully to national progress.
The two-day event serves as a testament to Gabon’s resolve to build a resilient economy—one where enterprises are not just participants but leaders in shaping the nation’s future.
