French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu touched down in Rabat on July 15 for an official two-day visit, during which several key agreements are set to be finalized. The trip also sets the stage for a future state visit by King Mohammed VI to France.
A high-level delegation, including Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot and Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez, accompanied Lecornu to ink deals spanning economic cooperation, judicial collaboration, and defense partnerships. “Regional security remains a cornerstone of Franco-Moroccan relations,” sources noted, highlighting growing concerns over Sahel instability and the persistent threat of terrorism as shared priorities.
The visit marks the beginning of Lecornu’s international diplomatic engagements—just a day after he concluded a visit to Qatar to convey France’s condolences following the passing of the former Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
This trip carries added significance as it follows a period of strained relations between the two nations in 2021 and 2022, underscoring the renewed momentum in their partnership.
