French national day celebration strengthens ties with Chad in N’Djamena
Diplomats and local leaders gathered in N’Djamena to mark the French National Day, reaffirming the strong partnership between France and Chad.
The French embassy in Chad hosted a vibrant ceremony on July 14, 2026, at the French Residence in N’Djamena to celebrate French National Day.
The event brought together a diverse crowd including Chad’s Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, military officials, diplomatic representatives, French residents, state and private sector leaders, and civil society members.
Unity and shared values on display
After the national anthems of both countries, Ambassador Éric Gérard took the floor. He highlighted the significance of July 14 for France, emphasizing the core republican values of liberty, equality, and fraternity.
The ambassador also reflected on the deep historical ties between France and Chad, praising the enduring friendship built over decades. He specifically acknowledged the presence of veterans from past collaborations.
« This friendship grows stronger every day. We must continue building bonds rooted in mutual respect, trust, and honesty. We share a relationship that allows us to speak frankly when needed, » he remarked.
Partnerships that drive progress
Ambassador Gérard outlined the robust cooperation between the two nations, with 39 active projects spanning critical sectors such as water supply, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, education, and youth empowerment initiatives. « The meeting between our heads of state on January 29 in Paris marked a turning point in this renewed partnership, » he noted.
He also referenced the Africa-France Summit in Nairobi as another milestone, where Chad joined 48 other African nations at the highest level.
The ambassador reiterated France’s commitment to Chad’s development through the « Tchad Connexion 2030 » national development plan, calling it a transformative roadmap for the country’s future.
As the evening concluded, the gathering stood as a testament to the enduring partnership between France and Chad, celebrating both shared history and forward-looking collaboration.
