Senate kicks off second reading of referendum law proposal

The President of the Senate, Sama Lukonde, announced on Wednesday, June 10, during a plenary session, that the Assembly had transmitted the bill outlining the conditions for organizing a referendum in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
This legislation, slated for second reading by the upper house of Parliament, has been referred to the Political, Administrative, and Legal Affairs Committee for thorough review. The committee has been given a three-day deadline to submit its report.
In the lower house, the bill was introduced by National Deputy Paul-Gaspard Ngondankoy, representing the Yahuma territory in Tshopo province.
On May 9, the lower house adopted the text by a wide margin. Out of 351 deputies who voted, 348 supported its adoption, two opposed it, and one abstained.
