Chad un committee wraps up 2024 sustainable development framework cycle

The TchadUN steering committee concluded its 2024-2026 sustainable development cooperation cycle this Friday, May 22, at a N’Djamena hotel. The session was jointly led by Tahir Hamid Nguilin, the country’s Minister of State for Finance, Budget, Economy, Planning, and International Cooperation, and Dr. François Batalingaya, the resident coordinator of the United Nations system in Chad.

The high-level meeting brought together government officials, representatives from UN agencies, technical and financial partners, as well as civil society and private sector stakeholders.

During the discussions, the focus was twofold: reviewing the achievements of the 2024-2026 cycle while simultaneously laying the groundwork for the next 2027-2030 cooperation framework. Nguilin highlighted the strong partnership between Chad and the UN, emphasizing the strategic importance of this collaboration. He also underscored the government’s commitment to building a more resilient, inclusive, and prosperous nation through its national development plan, Tchad Connexion 2030. Key priorities include human capital development, climate adaptation, good governance, youth employment, and women’s empowerment.

Nguilin stressed the significance of this session, stating, « This steering committee meeting reflects our shared determination to harmonize UN interventions with Chad’s national priorities. By finalizing the 2026 work plans and setting the stage for 2027-2030, we are reaffirming our dedication to inclusive growth that leaves no one behind. »

Dr. Batalingaya echoed this sentiment, noting that the evaluation of the current cycle confirms the strength of joint efforts. « As we close this chapter, our focus shifts to the future. The upcoming 2027-2030 UNSDCF will embody a renewed ambition to effectively address the financing needs and aspirations of the people of Chad,” he remarked.

The discussions also explored the lessons learned from the ongoing cycle and strategic priorities for 2027-2030, including development financing, social inclusion, and resilience. The future cooperation framework will be closely aligned with the objectives of Tchad Connexion 2030.
