N’Djamena — Authorities in Chad have unveiled a sweeping crackdown on organized crime, resulting in the arrest of 29 suspected felons in the capital city. The sweep, conducted between May 15 and June 1, targeted individuals linked to a range of serious offenses, including weapons trafficking and armed robbery.
Coordinated security operations lead to mass arrests
The National Police of Chad, through a joint effort involving the Intelligence Unit, Public Security Commissions, central investigative services, and the Ngueli border police station, executed a series of targeted operations. These coordinated actions culminated in the detention of 29 suspects, whose alleged activities span multiple criminal domains.
Charges range from weapons trafficking to aggravated burglary
Among the 29 individuals presented before authorities, charges include weapons trafficking and conspiracy, gang formation, simple and aggravated theft, armed robbery, vehicle break-ins, and illegal entry into the country. Following standard procedural interrogations, the suspects were categorized into four distinct groups based on the severity and nature of their alleged crimes.
Key cases involve gang-related activities and armed robbery, motorcycle thefts with accomplices, theft of electronics, gold, textiles, and other valuables, as well as pickpocketing. Several suspects were caught in the act during vehicle break-ins, further solidifying the evidence against them.
