Strengthening Burkina Faso-Benin bilateral ties: security and trade take center stage

High-level talks in Ouagadougou have set the stage for a new chapter in Burkina Faso-Benin relations. Captain Ibrahim Traoré, President of Burkina Faso, welcomed his Beninese counterpart, Romuald Wadagni, for an official visit focused on reinforcing partnerships across critical sectors.

The two leaders engaged in in-depth discussions covering security cooperation and economic integration, with particular emphasis on combating terrorism and expanding infrastructure networks. Both presidents highlighted the strategic importance of the Port of Cotonou for Burkina Faso’s trade flows and logistics.

During the meeting, it was agreed to expedite preparations for the 5th Session of the Joint High Commission for Cooperation, a bilateral platform designed to strengthen institutional and operational collaboration between the two nations.

The official visit concluded on a positive note with President Wadagni extending an invitation to his Burkinabè host to reciprocate the visit in the near future.
