Algeria-Niger ties strengthened with new power plant project

Algerian Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb met with Nigerien President General Abdourahamane Tiani in Niamey on Wednesday to discuss bilateral ties.

Ghrieb conveyed the greetings of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, emphasizing Algeria’s commitment to deepening solidarity and cooperation with Niger. The discussions focused on strengthening existing partnerships and accelerating joint initiatives.

Landmark power plant project takes shape ahead of schedule

During the meeting, both leaders reviewed the progress of cooperation between Algeria and Niger, including outcomes from President Tiani’s February visit to Algeria and agreements reached during the second session of the Algeria-Niger Joint High Commission held in Niamey last March. A key highlight was the rapid implementation of a new power plant project, showcasing the strong commitment of both nations to mutual development.

President Tiani expressed appreciation for President Tebboune’s dedication to bilateral cooperation, noting that the expedited power plant project exemplifies the depth of their fraternal ties and shared vision for a robust, diversified partnership that aligns with the aspirations of their peoples for greater solidarity and regional integration.

A shining example of South-South cooperation

President Tiani also praised the exceptional pace of bilateral projects, calling the Algeria-Niger relationship a model for South-South collaboration. He reaffirmed his and President Tebboune’s shared determination to elevate ties to new heights, ensuring tangible progress on the ground.

Prime Minister Ghrieb commended the rapid advancement of cooperation, emphasizing how the two countries have entered a new phase of political alignment and practical implementation of agreed projects. This progress is driven by the strong leadership and consistent follow-through from both presidents.

Regional stability and economic growth in focus

Ghrieb underscored Algeria’s ongoing commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation across key sectors such as energy, hydrocarbons, infrastructure, health, education, digital technology, and transportation. The discussions also addressed the implementation of strategic regional projects aimed at boosting economic development and regional integration.

Both sides stressed the need to accelerate project timelines to support economic growth and reinforce regional stability. They also reviewed shared regional challenges, reaffirming their dedication to coordinated efforts to enhance peace, security, and stability across West Africa.
