WHO strengthens support for health NGOs in Mali amid crisis

WHO bolsters healthcare partnerships in Mali’s crisis response

Since 2012, the World Health Organization (WHO) has led coordination efforts for health partners in Mali’s humanitarian cluster. In 2025, the country faces a severe crisis, with 6.4 million people—28% of its population—requiring urgent assistance. However, the humanitarian response plan remains critically underfunded at just 8.5%, with only 6% allocated to healthcare, severely limiting relief efforts.

To address these gaps, the Fonds Humanitaire Régional de l’Afrique de l’Ouest et du Centre (FHRAOC) has released a second reserve allocation for Mali, targeting displaced populations affected by armed violence and insecurity in regions like Gao, Mopti, and Ségou. Healthcare has been prioritized for funding following WHO’s advocacy, backed by compelling data on the dire healthcare access challenges faced by these vulnerable groups.
