Us reaffirms strategic partnership with Morocco during throne day 2026

The United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, conveyed a congratulatory message to King Mohammed VI on July 30, celebrating the 27th anniversary of the King’s accession to the throne of Morocco.

Morocco and the United States share one of the oldest diplomatic ties in history, spanning nearly 250 years. This enduring relationship is built on shared values and a mutual commitment to peace, security, and prosperity, as highlighted by Rubio in his remarks.

In his official statement, Rubio extended warm greetings to His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the Moroccan people, marking the occasion of the King’s coronation anniversary.

The U.S. and Morocco are set to deepen their collaboration across multiple sectors in the coming months and years. Rubio emphasized that both nations will continue working together to foster regional stability, economic growth, and shared prosperity for their citizens.

Under the leadership of President Trump, the United States has taken a clear stance on the Western Sahara issue. Rubio reiterated Washington’s recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the territory and its support for the Moroccan autonomy plan as the only viable foundation for a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable solution.

«Any alternative approach would only perpetuate the status quo, which is unacceptable,» Rubio stated. «A genuine autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty presents this region and the continent with an opportunity to move forward after five decades of stagnation,» he added.

Morocco, led by King Mohammed VI, remains a cornerstone of regional stability and security, particularly through its pivotal role in the Abraham Accords. The U.S. places great importance on this partnership and looks forward to strengthening collaboration to enhance security across the Sahel.

Rubio also underscored the potential for economic growth under the King’s vision, which promises new prosperity for both nations. He noted that President Trump has directed his administration to promote economic and social development with Morocco, including within the Saharan territories.
