Diplomatic relations between Togo and Luxembourg have reached new heights following a high-profile visit to Lomé by Xavier Bettel, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Luxembourg. The meeting, hosted by Togo’s Foreign Minister, Professor Robert Dussey, saw the signing of three major agreements in the presence of Cina Lawson, Minister of Digital Transition.
Reinforcing a decades-long partnership
This official visit marks Xavier Bettel’s second trip to Togo in just two years, following his 2024 visit. The visit underscores the deep-rooted trust and historical ties that have bound Lomé and Luxembourg since their diplomatic relations were established on March 7, 1972. To further solidify this relationship, both nations agreed to establish regular political consultations through a future protocol.
Three groundbreaking agreements for Togo’s future
The Lomé summit resulted in the immediate signing of three pivotal agreements aimed at accelerating Togo’s development:
- INCLURE environmental financing protocol: A landmark initiative to promote sustainability and ecological resilience in Togo.
- Togo-Luxembourg Indicative Cooperation Program (PIC): A framework to structure and sustain long-term development aid.
- Togocyber+ cybersecurity program: Supported by LuxDev, Luxembourg’s development cooperation agency, this program will enhance Togo’s digital transition and cybersecurity infrastructure under the guidance of Cina Lawson.
