The Sénégal national U17 team secured a morale-boosting victory this Thursday during a friendly encounter against Tunisie. Led by coach Lamine Sané, the young Lionceaux triumphed with a 1-0 scoreline at the Stade municipal de Hammam Lif, marking a significant step in their preparations for the upcoming CAN U17 Maroc 2026.
A tactical lineup for the Lionceaux
For this preparation match, the Senegalese head coach entrusted the captain’s armband to goalkeeper Assane Sarr. The Ndangane FC shot-stopper, who previously tasted success at the UFOA A U17 tournament, was protected by a defensive unit composed of Cheikh Dieng, Cheikh Thior, Abdourahmane Dièye, and Thierno Sow.
In the middle of the park, the responsibility of maintaining balance and dictating play fell to Mahamet Ba, Sébastien Nogueira, and Ibrahima Sow. Meanwhile, the offensive pressure was led by the trio of Sega Fall Mbodji, Magueye Niang, and Cheikh Omar Sy.
Momentum building before the continental challenge
Displaying defensive resilience and tactical discipline, the Lionceaux managed to find the breakthrough. The decisive moment came courtesy of Cheikh Omar Sy, whose lone goal separated the two sides and handed Sénégal the win. This performance provides the squad with essential confidence just days before their official debut in the African Cup of Nations.
Competing in Group D, the players under Lamine Sané are scheduled to begin their tournament journey on May 14. Their opening match will see them face Afrique du Sud at 4:00 PM in Maroc.
