The Minister of Land and Air Transport, Yankhoba Diémé, led the inaugural meeting of the Transport and Mobility Steering Committee this week, marking the official launch of the operational plan for an unprecedented event in African sports history.
The Sénégal is set to host the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, a groundbreaking moment that will bring together nearly 2,700 athletes from 206 National Olympic Committees, alongside thousands of officials, volunteers, and spectators. To meet the logistical challenges of this massive undertaking, authorities have established a three-pronged operational structure across Dakar, Diamniadio, and Saly/Mbour.
The framework includes:
- The Steering Committee (COPIL), chaired by Minister Diémé, overseeing overall coordination.
- The Technical Committee « Mobility JOJ 2026 », led by the CETUD, focusing on transport logistics.
- The AIBD Operations Committee, managing passenger flows at Blaise Diagne International Airport.
A key priority is the railway network, which will serve as the backbone for rapid connections between Dakar, Diamniadio, the airport, and Thiès. The government is accelerating execution phases with full-scale simulations to rigorously test transport and security systems. The ultimate goal is to position the 2026 Games as a showcase for Sénégal‘s logistical expertise while creating a lasting legacy in transport governance.
