Senegal: Ousmane Sonko elected president of the National Assembly
Just four days after his dismissal as Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko was elected President of Senegal’s National Assembly on Tuesday.

As leader of the African Patriots of Senegal for Work, Ethics and Fraternity (PASTEF, the ruling party), Ousmane Sonko secured 132 out of 133 votes cast, succeeding El Malick Ndiaye, who resigned last Sunday.
On Monday evening, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye appointed Ahmadou Al Aminou Lô as the new Prime Minister.
Aminou Lô previously served as Minister in charge of Monitoring, Guidance and Evaluation of the ‘National Transformation Program 2050’ under the presidency, followed by the role of Secretary-General of the Senegalese government.
