A product of the Paris Saint-Germain academy who also represented France at youth levels, left-back Arthur Zagré has made the significant choice to switch his sporting nationality, committing to Burkina Faso.
The 24-year-old, who previously earned 23 caps and scored twice for France’s U18 and U19 squads, is now making a pivotal national team switch. Zagré, a versatile defensive flank specialist currently with Excelsior Rotterdam in the Eredivisie (where he’s contributed 3 goals and 2 assists this season), will now don the colors of Burkina Faso, the nation of his heritage.
Since March, the Étalons have been under the guidance of coach Amir Abdou, and they anticipate Zagré’s integration for their upcoming June friendly fixtures against Belarus and Russia.

Zagré, capable of operating further up the wing or as a defensive midfielder, is currently in his third season playing in the Netherlands for Excelsior Rotterdam. After progressing through the ranks, the Neuilly-sur-Seine native made his senior Ligue 1 debut during the third matchday of the 2019-2020 campaign. His subsequent move to AS Monaco surprised many in the football world.
Following loan periods at Dijon, Utrecht, and ultimately Excelsior Rotterdam, this left-footed player, known for his powerful shot, found stability in the port city. With his contract at the Roodzwarten expiring next June, the diminutive player (1m68) is expected to seek a new challenge this summer. In the meantime, his debut for his new national side is eagerly awaited.
