Following Paris Saint-Germain’s victory in the Champions League, numerous arrests were made across the capital. Similar outbreaks of tension were also reported in Bordeaux and Agen, marking a night of significant public order challenges.
Authorities had prepared an extraordinary security operation for the evening of Saturday, May 30, anticipating either a triumph or a defeat for Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final. A staggering 22,000 police officers and gendarmes were deployed nationwide, with 8,000 specifically assigned to Paris and its surrounding areas. Even before the match concluded, as approximately 20,000 fans gathered at the Parc des Princes for a live screening, initial confrontations erupted between law enforcement personnel and individuals identified as ‘supporters’ near the stadium. These early skirmishes led to no fewer than 20 apprehensions before the final whistle.
