Norwegian minister’s official visit to Senegal strengthens bilateral ties
From May 3 to 4, 2026, Senegal welcomed His Excellency Åsmund Aukrust, Norway’s Minister of International Development, for an official visit.
The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Dakar proudly hosted Norway’s Minister of International Development, Åsmund Aukrust, during his two-day visit to Senegal. This official trip underscored Norway’s commitment to deepening bilateral relations and fostering dialogue with the West African nation.
During his stay, the Minister engaged in high-level discussions with key Senegalese officials, including Cheikh Niang, Minister of African Integration, Foreign Affairs, and Senegalese Abroad; Elhadj Abdourahmane Diouf, Minister of Environment and Ecological Transition; Abdourahmane Sarr, Minister of Economy, Planning, and Cooperation; and El Malick Ndiaye, President of the National Assembly.
These meetings provided a platform to address pressing regional challenges, particularly in the Sahel, where security and development remain critical priorities. The talks also explored global issues and multilateral initiatives such as the UN’s 80th anniversary celebrations. The visit highlighted a shared resolve to bolster cooperation across multiple sectors.
The visit concluded with a strong reaffirmation of Senegal’s role as a stable democracy and a pivotal partner in advancing regional peace and cooperation.
