New political movement ‘alternative credible’ launches in Côte d’Ivoire

Abidjan, July 5, 2026 – A new political force, Alternative crédible (ACR), has been officially introduced to the press, aiming to present a fresh political offering in Côte d’Ivoire. Leaders of the movement unveiled their vision at a press conference held on Saturday, July 4, 2026, in Grand-Bassam.

Oxyde Tano, who serves as the national executive secretary of ACR and was the primary speaker at the event, outlined the foundational principles, ambitious goals, and overarching vision of this emerging political group. He emphasized that ACR seeks to provide concrete solutions to the nation’s pressing socio-economic and democratic challenges.

Tano explained that the initiative first took shape on December 1, 2025, driven by a collective desire from women, men, and young people from diverse backgrounds. These individuals are united by a strong commitment to introduce an innovative approach to politics within Côte d’Ivoire.

According to Tano, the formation of ACR stems from a shared understanding that despite its abundant human and natural resources, Côte d’Ivoire continues to grapple with significant hurdles. These include the escalating cost of living, widespread youth unemployment, persistent social inequalities, inadequacies in public services, and deep-seated social divisions.

Positioning itself as a left-leaning political movement, ACR firmly asserts its commitment to placing human well-being at the core of its operations. Its aspirational vision is to cultivate a Côte d’Ivoire that is inherently « just, prosperous, reconciled, democratic, solidary, and fully respectful of the rule of law ».

Operating under the compelling slogan, « Demain se décide aujourd’hui » (Tomorrow is decided today), ACR is dedicated to fostering a governance model built on transparency, open dialogue, and a relentless pursuit of the common good. The party’s long-term ambition is to rally the nation’s vibrant forces around a credible political agenda, thereby contributing to the establishment of a more effective state, a more inclusive economy, and a more equitable society.

The leadership of ACR detailed the primary pillars of their political platform. These encompass critical areas such as fostering youth employment and entrepreneurship, enhancing the national educational system, ensuring broader access to healthcare, modernizing the agricultural sector, guaranteeing the safety of individuals and property, advancing the status of women, actively combating the high cost of living, driving economic development, safeguarding the environment, and strengthening national unity.

Oxyde Tano reiterated ACR’s openness to constructive dialogue with all political and social entities that uphold shared values of peace, democracy, social justice, and development. He provided assurances that particular attention would be directed towards the concerns of young people, women, workers, economic operators, students, and the Ivorian diaspora.

The national executive secretary further announced the movement’s official grand launch, scheduled for August in Cocody. During this pivotal event, ACR’s president, Bamba Abou, is slated to formally present the movement’s comprehensive political vision along with the key strategic directions of its program.

Leading up to this inaugural ceremony, ACR plans to conduct a series of awareness tours, organize general assemblies, establish local coordination bodies, and roll out national campaigns for mobilization and membership across the entire territory.
