Olympique Lyonnais will not receive special dispensation as they embark on their European campaign. Not yet fully secured a spot in the prestigious Champions League, OL must navigate a crucial third preliminary round early in August, with the potential for playoff matches to follow approximately two weeks thereafter.
These potential playoff fixtures are slated to occur just days prior to the commencement of the Ligue 1 championship, where Paulo Fonseca’s squad is scheduled to face Toulouse. Lyon’s management formally approached the LFP via written correspondence, requesting a deferral of their initial Ligue 1 matchday. The club emphasized that their appeal was made in consideration of the broader interests of French football.
However, the LFP delivered a negative response, unequivocally declining to reschedule any Ligue 1 fixture at the very start of the season. Consequently, Olympique Lyonnais will need to adapt their plans should they successfully advance to the Champions League playoffs.
