A collective of Serigne Touba’s descendants files a complaint against Ousmane Sonko
A formal complaint has been lodged with the Prosecutor of the Republic at the High Court of Dakar against Ousmane Sonko, a prominent political figure serving as both the President of the National Assembly and leader of the PASTEF party. The complaint was initiated by a group representing the grandchildren of Serigne Touba, who are demanding an investigation into statements made by Sonko during the inauguration of his party’s headquarters.
In his remarks, Sonko alleged that “dirty money entered the holy city of Touba,” a claim that has now triggered legal proceedings. The complainants argue that these remarks have tarnished the reputation, dignity, and image of Touba, a city revered across Senegal.
The plaintiffs, identifying themselves as Senegalese citizens, young intellectuals, and economic operators—along with their lineage connection to Serigne Touba—assert that Sonko’s statements constitute a serious affront to their honor and collective identity. They are seeking a thorough judicial inquiry to clarify the meaning behind his words and to verify the evidence supporting them.
The complaint requests that the Prosecutor summon Ousmane Sonko for questioning, compel him to substantiate his claims, and conduct all necessary investigations to determine whether his allegations hold merit or are entirely baseless.
