High-level french delegation set for official visit to Rabat

France : nouveau gouvernement sous la direction de Sébastien Lecornu

Diplomatic engagement between Morocco and France is set to intensify with an official visit by French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu to Rabat, scheduled for July 15 and 16. The Prime Minister will be accompanied by ten French ministers, marking one of the most significant bilateral visits between the two nations in recent months. The agenda includes a series of bilateral meetings and the anticipated signing of several conventions across various sectors, signaling a reinforced partnership.

The French delegation is expected to arrive in Rabat on the afternoon of Wednesday, July 15. Immediately following their arrival, a private meeting is planned between Prime Minister Lecornu and Moroccan Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch. Concurrently, various government departments from both countries will hold separate preparatory sessions to pave the way for broader discussions.

a significant Morocco-France visit with political and economic impact

The highlight of this high-level visit is anticipated for Thursday, July 16, with the plenary session of the High Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation taking place in Rabat. This crucial session will be co-chaired by both heads of government at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, bringing together Moroccan and French delegations. Its purpose is to review key shared dossiers and formalize new commitments through the signing of numerous agreements, underlining the depth of the Morocco-France relationship.

This high-stakes gathering occurs amidst a period of renewed momentum in relations between Rabat and Paris. It is considered the most important interaction since the arrival of the new French Ambassador to Morocco, Philippe Lalliot. Beyond its political implications, the visit also underscores the substantial economic exchanges between these two key partners. In 2024, bilateral trade reached an unprecedented 14.8 billion euros, reaffirming France’s pivotal role in the Kingdom’s external economic affairs.

The robust trade flows clearly demonstrate this interdependence. Morocco accounts for over 40% of French exports to the African continent, particularly in sectors such as transport, electronic equipment, chemicals, and cosmetics. Simultaneously, French imports from Morocco saw a 4.4% increase in 2024. France remains Morocco’s primary economic and financial partner, while Morocco has solidified its position as Paris’s leading African client and supplier. Against this backdrop, the Morocco-France visit on July 15 and 16 is poised to strengthen existing cooperations and initiate new projects in areas deemed priorities by both capital cities.
