Having developed his talent at Toulouse FC and subsequently played for prestigious clubs like FC Barcelona, Schalke 04, Benfica Lisbon, OGC Nice, and most recently West Ham, Jean-Clair Todibo, 26, is reportedly poised for a significant return to Ligue 1, with Olympique de Marseille emerging as his preferred destination. This desire comes on the heels of the Hammers’ recent relegation to the Championship. However, despite the French international’s clear intent, the path to this transfer remains uncertain.

Just one season after his permanent transfer to West Ham, following an initial loan spell, Jean-Clair Todibo, 26, appears set to seek a new challenge before the summer transfer window closes on July 1st. The Hammers faced relegation to the Championship at the conclusion of the 2025/2026 season. This development has prompted the French international, who boasts two caps for the French national team, to explore alternative options for his career progression. Could OM be his next destination?
From West Ham to Olympique de Marseille?
During a discussion on the DS segment of Winamax FC, Benoît Trémoulinas, the former Girondins de Bordeaux and FC Sevilla player, speculated on a possible move for Jean-Clair Todibo to Olympique de Marseille. Trémoulinas remarked, “He’s going down with West Ham. On loan, you can’t buy him. I think he also wants to relaunch his career, so why not OM? He would be in France, maintaining visibility for the French national team. I find it coherent.” This initial hypothesis, presented by Trémoulinas, is now reportedly being seriously considered by Todibo himself.
Todibo targets OM, but a significant hurdle emerges
Recent information circulating from journalist Pablo Oliveira via his X account indicates that Jean-Clair Todibo has expressed a strong desire to depart the London Stadium, which is set to host Championship football next season. Olympique de Marseille holds particular appeal for the player, who honed his skills at Toulouse FC and also had a stint with FC Barcelona. However, the exact terms of the potential deal present a challenge. While OM is reportedly keen to secure Todibo’s services, their preference is for a loan agreement, as they currently lack the financial resources for a full transfer fee. Conversely, West Ham is specifically looking for a permanent sale to streamline their squad. The key question now remains: can the two clubs bridge this financial gap and reach a mutual understanding?
