François silibi assumes parliamentary seat in Bénin’s national assembly

François Silibi officially commenced his tenure as a member of Bénin’s National Assembly on Friday, July 10, 2026. He steps into the role previously held by Louis Vlavonou, who departed his parliamentary seat to join the Senate as a de jure member, a privilege afforded by his former position as President of the National Assembly.

The formal installation ceremony for the newly appointed deputy unfolded at the Palais des Gouverneurs in Porto-Novo, following a plenary session held earlier today.

Born in 1982, François Silibi is an accomplished English teacher. Hailing from Ifangni, the same locality as Louis Vlavonou, Silibi is now set to represent this constituency within the ongoing 10th legislature. His official swearing-in as a deputy means he will fulfill the remainder of the mandate left vacant by Louis Vlavonou, which is slated to conclude in February 2033.

As the designated alternate for the former President of the National Assembly, François Silibi makes his debut as a parliamentarian. His entry into the legislative body follows the resignation of the retired customs official, Louis Vlavonou, who is poised to take his seat in Bénin’s upper house starting July 30.
