Cameroon cocoa quality boost: 35 export inspectors complete specialized training
On june 26, 2026, the national cocoa and coffee board of Cameroon, in partnership with the united nations industrial development organization, concluded a three-day certification program for 35 export warehouse inspectors in douala.
The intensive training covered critical areas such as sampling techniques, quality control protocols, and warehouse management systems specifically designed for cocoa destined for international markets. Organizers emphasized that these skills will directly enhance the competitiveness of Cameroon’s cocoa and coffee sectors globally.
international recognition strengthens Cameroon’s cocoa sector
In february 2026, Cameroon’s cocoa achieved a historic milestone by securing gold at the prestigious cocoa of excellence awards, held during the chocoa trade fair in amsterdam. The event attracted 191 samples from 45 origins worldwide, all evaluated for quality, sustainability, and sensory profiles.
Of the competing entries, only 50 lots earned distinctions from an international jury of sensory and industry experts. Cameroon’s sample number 167 claimed the top prize in the africa & indian ocean category, marking a significant achievement for the country’s cocoa industry.
This gold medal follows a bronze award in 2023, highlighting Cameroon’s upward trajectory in producing high-quality, specialty cocoa. The recognition reflects growing demand for premium cocoa beans, where factors such as flavor authenticity, sustainability, and ethical sourcing drive premium pricing above conventional cocoa markets.
The award not only elevates Cameroon’s reputation as a producer of exceptional cocoa but also signals strong potential for increased investment in traceability systems, technical training, and cooperative development. These initiatives are vital for translating quality improvements into sustainable economic benefits for local farmers and the broader cocoa value chain.
