In 2024, a trace amount of meldonium—a banned substance—was detected in a routine anti-doping test on Mudryk. The Ukrainian winger received a four-year ban as a result. He subsequently filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). However, under current World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) regulations, a similar finding today would not trigger disciplinary proceedings.

“Regulations have since been updated,” the Football Association (FA) stated in an official statement. “Although the result cannot be reassessed retroactively, Mudryk’s positive test would no longer lead to suspension today. The meldonium level detected in his sample would not have been reported, meaning no anti-doping violation would have occurred.”

“Considering these regulatory changes and other relevant factors in the case, the FA and Mudryk have reached a mutual agreement, with WADA’s endorsement.”

As part of this agreement, Mudryk admitted to breaching anti-doping rules and accepted a suspension he has now fully served. With his ban lifted, he is free to return to competitive action immediately.
