Chad’s vice premier minister assesses southern governance in Moundou
The Vice-Premier Minister overseeing Territorial Administration, Limane Mahamat, has been in Moundou since 19 May 2026 on an official tour to monitor local governance progress.
From 20 to 21 May, discussions unfolded at the Logone Occidental Provincial Council headquarters, bringing together government delegates from southern provinces, regional prefects, urban mayors, provincial council heads, and elected lawmakers.
At the opening session, the Logone Occidental Governor’s Delegate, Dago Yacoub, warmly welcomed the N’Djamena delegation. He highlighted how this gathering would give national leaders firsthand insight into the region’s most pressing needs.
Vice-Premier Minister Limane Mahamat opened the talks by underlining the southern zone’s vital role in Chad’s economy. He called it the nation’s “agricultural powerhouse” for its crucial role in food security while warning that escalating farmer-herder clashes, intercommunal tensions, and illegal arms trafficking were eroding social cohesion.
This assessment mission aims to tighten local governance and strengthen the bond between central authorities and local administrations.
