Chadian authorities have confirmed the formal establishment of diplomatic relations between Chad and the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. This significant step was marked by the signing of a joint communiqué in New York.
The pivotal document was formally signed on July 16. Representing Chad was its Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Mouctar Abakar, who joined his Bahamian counterpart, Stan James, in the signing ceremony.
Through this communiqué, both nations have committed to fostering robust cooperation and enduring friendship. This partnership will be anchored in fundamental principles, including the sovereign equality of states, mutual respect for sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, alongside a strict adherence to non-interference in each other’s internal affairs.
The Commonwealth of the Bahamas, an island nation nestled in the Caribbean, boasts a population of approximately 420,000 residents. Having gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1973, its economic pillars are primarily tourism and financial services. Renowned globally as a leading offshore financial hub, the country is frequently characterized as a tax haven, attributed to its attractive fiscal policies and the prominence of its international financial sector.
This official formalization of diplomatic ties underscores N’Djamena’s clear strategic objective: to broaden and fortify its international partnerships with diverse member states across the global community.
