Cameroun dismantles human trafficking network exploiting job seekers
A sophisticated scam promising lucrative overseas employment to young Cameroonians has been dismantled by security forces. The operation, uncovered during a joint investigation, reveals how fraudulent recruiters targeted vulnerable job seekers through deceptive business models.
Under the guise of network marketing companies, suspects lured desperate job seekers with promises of high-paying overseas employment. When the net was cast, thirteen individuals were caught in the gendarmerie’s sweep and are now facing legal consequences.
Thirteen suspects linked to a human trafficking and fraudulent recruitment network disguised as network marketing companies were presented to the press on June 22, 2026, at the National Gendarmerie headquarters in Yaoundé. The briefing was conducted by Atangana Fiacre Kisito, Deputy Director of the Central Coordination Unit of the National Gendarmerie.
Operating under names such as QNET, IGNITE, and UNIMEC, the group specifically targeted students, unemployed youth, and job seekers. They enticed victims with false promises of lucrative employment opportunities abroad. While two alleged ringleaders are believed to be on the run in the Republic of the Congo and the Central African Republic, investigations continue across multiple Cameroonian cities.
