Portuguese midfielder Vitinha was named the man of the match in the Champions League final, following Paris Saint-Germain’s dramatic victory over Arsenal in a penalty shootout (1-1, 4-3 on penalties). The Parisian club completed a historic double.
Moments after lifting the coveted Champions League trophy alongside his teammates, Vitinha received the man of the match award. A well-deserved recognition after delivering a masterclass performance, particularly in orchestrating play. The Portuguese international dominated possession with 162 touches of the ball, a new record for the final, and completed 141 of his 150 passes.
UEFA’s technical observers praised his influence, stating: «Vitinha was Paris Saint-Germain’s standout performer on Saturday night. He seized control of the midfield, especially in the second half, driving his team forward and dictating the tempo of the match. It was an outstanding display.»
However, the evening wasn’t without its setback. Vitinha was forced to leave the field on a stretcher at halftime of the extra time period (105th minute), appearing to suffer an injury to his left leg. He was substituted by Lucas Beraldo as PSG pushed for the decisive goal.
