UNESCO Bamako supports the launch of the 27th Environment Fortnight in Mali

The 27th edition of the Environment Fortnight aims to unite national initiatives, raise community awareness about preserving natural resources, and promote sustainable environmental practices.

The UNESCO office in Bamako actively participated in the official launch ceremony of the 27th Environment Fortnight, held in Bamako on Saturday, June 6, 2026. The delegation was led by UNESCO Representative Mr. Ali Mohamed Sinane.

The opening ceremony was presided over by the Minister of State, Minister of Economy and Finance, Mr. Alousséni Sanou, representing the Prime Minister and Head of Government. The event brought together government officials, environment ministers from AES member states (Burkina Faso and Niger), representatives from national institutions, technical and financial partners, civil society, the private sector, and media representatives.

The 27th edition seeks to consolidate national efforts to heighten community awareness about safeguarding natural resources and advancing sustainable environmental practices.

Scheduled from June 5 to 15, 2026, the fortnight will focus on two key themes:

  • ‘Climate crisis and solutions for a safer, more resilient, and sustainable future,’ aligned with World Environment Day.

  • ‘Pastures: recognizing, respecting, restoring,’ in connection with the International Day for Combating Desertification and Drought.

By taking part in this initiative, UNESCO reaffirms its commitment to working alongside the Malian Government to enhance environmental awareness, promote best practices, and support concrete actions for sustainable and resilient development.
