Stuttgart secures champions league spot after frankfurt draw

VfB Stuttgart has officially secured its place in next season’s UEFA Champions League, finishing fourth in the Bundesliga after a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt this Saturday.

Following a crucial 2-2 draw on Saturday afternoon in Frankfurt, Stuttgart clinched the fourth position in the Bundesliga standings. This pivotal result ensures their qualification for the upcoming Champions League campaign, joining German football giants Bayern, Dortmund, and Leipzig.

Stuttgart battled intensely with Hoffenheim and Bayer Leverkusen for the coveted fourth-place finish. In a dramatic encounter against Eintracht Frankfurt, Sebastian Hoeness’s squad initially took the lead with goals from Chema Andrès in the 10th minute and Nikolas Nartey just before halftime in the 45th minute plus four. However, their lead was erased in the second half as Jonathan Burkhardt converted two penalties for Frankfurt, bringing the match to an even scoreline.

Amassing 62 points, the Swabian club successfully held off Hoffenheim, who finished with 61 points after a 4-0 defeat at Mönchengladbach, and Bayer Leverkusen, who ended with 59 points after a 1-1 draw at home against Hamburg. This qualification marks the seventh time in the club’s illustrious history that Stuttgart will participate in Europe’s premier club competition, encompassing both the Champions League and its predecessor, the European Cup.

At the opposite end of the league table, Heidenheim faced relegation after a 2-0 loss at home to Mainz, while St. Pauli also dropped to the second division following a 3-1 home defeat against Wolfsburg. With 29 points each, both Heidenheim and St. Pauli will compete in the lower tier next season. Wolfsburg, finishing 16th, faces a playoff match against the third-placed team from the second division, which could be Elversberg, Hannover, or Paderborn, to retain their Bundesliga status.

Meanwhile, Bayern, having already secured their 35th German championship title, concluded their season with a dominant 5-1 victory over Cologne. The Munich side finished the Bundesliga campaign with an impressive 122 goals, with Harry Kane contributing 36 of them (and 59 across all competitions), including a superb hat-trick against Cologne in the 10th, 13th, and 69th minutes.
