Senegal names economist Ahmadou Al Aminou Lô prime minister following Sonko’s dismissal

On Monday, May 25, Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye officially appointed Ahmadou Al Aminou Lô, a distinguished former official of the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO), to lead the government of Senegal as its new Prime Minister. This significant announcement was made public through a decree read on national television.
Mr. Lô previously served as Secretary General within the inaugural government formed by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, who assumed power in April 2014. Following this foundational role, he was elevated to a ministerial position.
This pivotal appointment comes just four days after the unexpected dismissal of Ousmane Sonko, the former head of government. The change in leadership follows several months of escalating tensions between the two principal executive figures in this prominent West African nation.
