The Parti des peuples africains-Côte d’Ivoire (PPA-CI), led by former Ivorian President Laurent Gbagbo, has issued a formal notice excluding several party officials and activists from its first ordinary congress scheduled for 14–15 May 2026 in Abidjan.
The decision, outlined in an official statement, applies to members who disregarded the party’s directive against participating in the October 2025 presidential election and the 27 December 2025 legislative vote.
According to the communiqué, individuals such as Don Mello, Stéphane Kipré, Dali Arthur, and Armand Ouégnin remain barred from attending the congress until disciplinary proceedings against them conclude. The party stressed that their exclusion is temporary but necessary to uphold internal discipline ahead of the key gathering.
Why the disciplinary measures?
The move follows growing internal tensions within the PPA-CI, where high-ranking figures openly defied Gbagbo’s stance of boycotting the recent elections. The party leadership views their actions as a direct challenge to its strategic decisions, prompting swift disciplinary action to reinforce cohesion.
The congress aims to re-energize the party’s base, redefine its political direction, and consolidate its organizational structure. Scheduled at the Palais de la Culture in Abidjan, the event is expected to set the tone for the PPA-CI’s future trajectory amidst a climate of internal dissent.
