The communication unit of the Haut-Uele provincial government has swiftly responded to recent allegations linking Governor Jean Bakomito Gambu to Corneille Nangaa. In a detailed statement, Muammar Awoni, head of the Cellule de Communication, refuted claims made in questioning articles about alleged collusion between the governor and the controversial figure.

First, Awoni dismissed reports of economic paralysis in Isiro, Haut-Uele’s capital, on June 17, 2026. He emphasized that local stakeholders confirmed no such disruption occurred, urging thorough verification before publishing unverified claims. Regarding school activities, he noted that schools nationwide typically wind down operations in June, negating suggestions of an organized strike or protest.

The statement questioned the basis for associating Governor Bakomito with Nangaa, highlighting his well-documented efforts to restore peace in Haut-Uele. It underscored his role in mobilizing against groups threatening national stability, including those linked to Corneille Nangaa and Paul Kagame, whose alleged support for armed factions has fueled violence in eastern regions.

Awoni praised the governor’s contributions to security, including equipping FARDC troops with vehicles and logistical support to combat insurgencies like ADF incursions in territories such as Mungbere. He cited the deployment of high-ranking military officials, including the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations and Intelligence, as evidence of the government’s commitment to addressing security challenges in the province.

The governor’s proactive measures, such as providing essential resources to security forces, reflect his dedication to President Félix Tshisekedi’s vision of peace and development, Awoni stated. He condemned attempts to tarnish Bakomito’s reputation through baseless accusations, calling for responsible journalism that upholds truth and ethics.
