APEC’s bold stance on constitutional reform in Lubumbashi

The Action des Patriotes pour l’Émergence du Congo (APEC), led by interim president Dominique Unyon Pewu, held a high-energy rally in Lubumbashi’s Gécamines stadium, drawing massive crowds and underscoring its unwavering support for constitutional reform. The event highlighted the party’s growing influence in the Grand Katanga region and its alignment with President Félix Tshisekedi’s Union Sacrée coalition.

Under a vibrant display of national colors and patriotic fervor, APEC’s leadership emphasized the urgent need to adapt the Constitution to the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s evolving political, economic, and security landscapes. The party argued that no constitutional framework should remain static in the face of dynamic societal changes, framing reform as a democratic imperative rather than a subversion of governance.

Dominique Unyon Pewu, speaking on behalf of APEC, invoked Article 5 of the Constitution, which vests sovereignty in the Congolese people to determine their constitutional future. He asserted that if the populace endorses reform, no external force could legitimately obstruct the process, positioning APEC as a champion of national sovereignty.

By mobilizing thousands in Lubumbashi, APEC not only demonstrated its grassroots strength but also positioned itself as a pivotal voice in shaping the DRC’s institutional future. The party’s rally underscored its commitment to fostering a more responsive and effective state, tailored to the aspirations of the Congolese people.
