Mali thanks outgoing Belgian coach after World Cup and CAN setbacks

After a challenging period, the Malian Football Federation (Femafoot) has decided to relieve Tom Saintfiet of his duties as head coach of the Mali national team. The Belgian tactician, who took charge in August 2024, failed to secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations by Senegal.
Femafoot acknowledges Saintfiet’s efforts
In a statement posted on its official social media channels, Mahazou Cisset, the newly elected president of Femafoot, expressed gratitude for Saintfiet’s contributions. He highlighted the coach’s unwavering commitment, professionalism, and dedication during his tenure. Despite facing a demanding environment, Saintfiet maintained team cohesion, structured technical work, and upheld the dignity of the Aigles du Mali (Mali’s national team).
The federation has now launched a call for applications to appoint a new head coach for the Mali national team. Candidates have until May 10 to submit their applications.
