The Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) executed a comprehensive security mission along the Kayes–Sandaré–Diéma–Bamako corridor from June 23 to June 29, 2026. This operation was designed to safeguard a critical trade route and ensure uninterrupted movement for civilian traffic.
On June 23, the first FAMa detachment departed Kayes, providing armed escort for 540 civilian trucks bound for Sandaré. Concurrently, a second unit mobilized from Diéma, taking charge of the stranded vehicles in Sandaré and integrating them into the convoy. By the time the two groups converged at Diéma, the total number of trucks under protection had swelled to 940.
The unified convoy, now under full FAMa supervision, proceeded through Sebabougou, Kwala, Diédiéni, Kolokani, and Kati before arriving safely in Bamako. Throughout the journey, no security incidents were reported, underscoring the operation’s success.
This mission reflects the Malian Armed Forces’ ongoing commitment to securing key transit routes across the country. By maintaining a visible and proactive security presence, the FAMa continue to protect civilians, facilitate trade, and uphold national stability.
