Gabon’s President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema met yesterday with Libreville’s Mayor Eugène Mba at the Palais Rénovation. This was the second meeting between the two leaders since their first encounter on April 28, focusing on the continuous oversight of local governance, performance evaluations of municipal executives, and strengthening state-local collaboration.
The Mayor presented a comprehensive progress report on his initial mandate since assuming office on April 24, detailing achievements and unveiling a restructured municipal administration. Discussions also centered on long-term urban transformation initiatives, including modern parking solutions, green and botanical space development, combating unauthorized public land occupation, and upgrading essential infrastructure. Digitalizing municipal services was another key topic.
President Oligui Nguema emphasized the urgent need to enhance urban cleanliness, stressing that hygiene remains a top priority. He specifically highlighted the importance of improving household waste collection systems to meet these standards.
The Head of State reaffirmed his vision for a modern and appealing Gabon, underlining that Libreville, as the nation’s showcase, must meet international urban planning, local governance, and public service benchmarks. He urged Mayor Mba to uphold strict standards, embrace innovation, and ensure efficient project execution.
