Groundbreaking initiative. Morocco’s flagship carrier, Royal Air Maroc (RAM), has marked a new era in transcontinental aviation by launching the first-ever direct flight between Casablanca and Los Angeles. This historic route not only connects Africa to the Pacific coast of the United States but also underscores the growing strategic importance of Moroccan aviation on the global stage.
Inaugural journey kicks off at dawn. The maiden voyage departed from Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca at 4:00 AM, embarking on a non-stop 12-hour flight to Los Angeles. The timing aligns with the 250th anniversary of Moroccan-American diplomatic ties and the excitement surrounding the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where Morocco’s national team, the Atlas Lions, will compete.
« This direct connection is a milestone for Royal Air Maroc and for Africa’s air connectivity, » stated Hamid Addou, CEO of the airline. « By bridging Morocco with the U.S. West Coast, we are reinforcing our commitment to positioning Casablanca as a global aviation hub and showcasing the Kingdom’s dynamic role in international travel. »
Three weekly flights to boost Casablanca’s hub status
The new Casablanca-Los Angeles service operates three times a week—on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays—using state-of-the-art long-haul aircraft. Departures from Casablanca are set for 4:00 AM, arriving in Los Angeles at 8:20 AM local time. The return flights depart California at 10:20 AM, landing back in Casablanca at 5:25 AM the following day.
This expansion is part of a broader development plan agreed upon with the Moroccan government in July 2023. It aims to solidify Casablanca’s position as a key transit point between Africa, Europe, and the Americas, catering to the needs of the Moroccan diaspora, tourists, business travelers, and football fans flocking to the 2026 World Cup.
Expanding RAM’s footprint in North America. With this new route, Royal Air Maroc now offers direct flights to major North American cities, including New York, Washington, Miami, Montreal, and Toronto, further cementing its presence in the region.
