The first group of Burkinabè pilgrims has landed safely in Ouagadougou, marking the official start of return flights following the Hajj 2026 in Saudi Arabia. A total of 342 faithfuls touched down at the international airport on June 2, 2026, greeted with warm embraces from family members and dignitaries. Their return symbolizes the culmination of weeks of spiritual journey and devotion.
These pilgrims, having fulfilled the fifth pillar of Islam, carried with them not only a deep sense of accomplishment but also heartfelt prayers for their homeland. Dressed in traditional attire, their faces radiated joy and gratitude, a sentiment echoed by Hadja Karidja Karambiri/Koné as she stepped off the plane.
“My journey to Mecca was beyond words. This first pilgrimage has filled my heart with immense joy and fulfillment. Everything went smoothly, and we prayed fervently for lasting peace and social harmony to return to Burkina Faso,” she shared, her voice trembling with emotion.
Officials from the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Mobility, including Secretary-General Saïdou Sankara, were on hand to welcome the returning pilgrims. While refraining from declaring a final assessment, Sankara assured the public of the event’s successful execution, noting the absence of major incidents. He conveyed the government’s profound gratitude to the pilgrims and their families.
“Tonight, we bring a message of satisfaction and happiness as we witness our brothers and sisters return in good health after completing their sacred duty. On behalf of the Prime Minister, we have come to greet them and extend our heartfelt congratulations.
May this spiritual journey strengthen their faith and bring blessings to their families. May the prayers offered in Mecca be answered, not just for them, but for the entire nation,” he declared.

The Federation of Islamic Associations of Burkina Faso (FAIB), represented by El Hadj Oumarou Zoungrana, commended the meticulous organization of the Hajj 2026. He praised the coordination committee for ensuring a seamless experience for all pilgrims.
The airlift operations are set to continue uninterrupted, bringing home the remaining Burkinabè pilgrims under close supervision by authorities and the organizing committee.
