Gonçalo Ramos: PSG’s second-biggest sale as AC Milan transfer nears
The Paris Saint-Germain are on the brink of completing one of the most significant departures in their club history. An agreement has been reached with AC Milan for the permanent transfer of Gonçalo Ramos, valued at approximately €60 million. This landmark deal will secure PSG’s second-highest sale ever, though it comes with a modest financial loss: the Portuguese striker was signed for €65 million following a season-long loan that cost €20 million upfront, yet his performances failed to justify the initial investment.
Neymar’s record-breaking exit still tops the list
Only Neymar’s transfer to Al-Hilal in 2023 surpasses Ramos’ exit in PSG’s financial history. The Brazilian forward was sold for €90 million after joining the club for €222 million from FC Barcelona in 2017—the most expensive transfer in football history at the time. However, his Saudi adventure proved short-lived, with just seven appearances, one goal, and three assists.
The €60 million from Ramos’ sale edges past the €50 million mark, a threshold PSG had not previously crossed in player sales. Manuel Ugarte’s transfer to Manchester United in 2024, for €50 million, held the previous record. The Uruguayan midfielder, who arrived from Sporting CP for €60 million just a year earlier, has struggled to establish himself at Old Trafford despite a respectable first season (45 matches, 2 goals, 6 assists).
Xavi Simons’ departure also bolstered PSG’s coffers significantly. The club recouped between €50 and €80 million from the Dutch midfielder’s sale to RB Leipzig in early 2025, structured through a financially advantageous contract. Simons later moved to Tottenham Hotspur, where he has become a key figure in helping the club secure its top-flight status.
Ramos among PSG’s elite sales
Below Neymar and Ramos, Marco Verratti’s transfer to Al-Arabi for €45 million in 2023 ranks next, followed by Gonçalo Guedes’ €40 million sale to Valencia. Further down the list, David Luiz returned to Chelsea in 2016 for €35 million, while Ronaldinho remains the sole pre-Qatari ownership representative in the Top 20 after being sold to FC Barcelona for just over €30 million.
With Gonçalo Ramos’ departure yet to be officially confirmed, another transfer could soon take center stage. Lee Kang-in, under contract until 2028, remains a highly sought-after asset. The South Korean international, with 50 caps and 10 goals for his country, has attracted persistent interest from Atlético Madrid, which has closely monitored his situation for weeks.
