German Ambassador Christian Sedat conducted a courtesy visit to Archbishop Samuel Kleda of Douala this Monday, June 30, 2026. The meeting, held at the Saint Peter and Paul Cathedral’s episcopal residence, included a tour of the historic site and an exchange on the recent papal visit to Cameroon.
The German embassy’s official Facebook statement emphasized the significance of this meeting, noting that it “reinforces the strong ties between Germany, Cameroon, and the Catholic Church.” The ambassador highlighted Germany’s active presence across Cameroon, actively engaging in dialogue and development initiatives.
Diplomat with extensive African experience
Ambassador Sedat, who has served as Germany’s envoy to South Sudan from 2023 to 2025, brings extensive diplomatic experience to his current role in Cameroon. His career includes postings in Mauritania, the United Kingdom, and the United States, where he held key positions in German embassies in London, Washington D.C., and Nouakchott.
Since assuming his duties in Yaoundé in July 2025, Sedat has prioritized strengthening German-Cameroonian cooperation. His work focuses on deepening economic relations, fostering development partnerships, and addressing sensitive cultural issues, including the restitution of colonial-era artifacts. Additionally, he actively supports community-based social initiatives, particularly in public health.
