GABON: President Oligui Nguema Unveils Exceptional Cabinet Meeting to Tackle Financial Woes

The President of Gabon, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, has convened an exceptional cabinet meeting to address the country’s financial challenges.

The objective of this meeting is to utilize public finances for national priorities and large-scale development projects.

Discussions centered on mobilizing revenue. The Head of State requested in-depth analysis of fiscal exemptions and trade policies.

Oligui Nguema instructed the completion of a comprehensive audit to differentiate between justified exemptions and those that continue to unfairly deprive the state of substantial resources upon expiration.

The President has sent a clear message to economic operators: no more unfettered tax breaks without measurable impact on the economy.

Digitalization and debt strategy were also discussed, with the President highlighting the importance of digitalization and interconnection between financial administrations.

He aims to improve revenue collection, enhance transparency, and make public action more effective.

The President has also instructed administrators on implementing a rigorous sustainability plan for national debt.

This initiative will prioritize education, healthcare, infrastructure development, access to clean water, electricity, and basic services over additional revenue.

A monthly review of revenue mobilization, budget execution, and debt management has been established.

Gracefully managing the economy is key to sustainable development and ensuring public well-being, President Oligui Nguema reiterates.
