Deadly jihadist attacks claim at least 22 lives in northern Burkina Faso
At least 22 military personnel and civilian auxiliaries were killed in suspected jihadist assaults over the weekend across northern Burkina Faso, according to security officials.
On Saturday morning, a base belonging to a Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR) in Di, situated near Dédougou, came under attack by extremist elements. This brutal assault led to the deaths of at least fourteen soldiers and seven members of the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), who are civilian auxiliaries supporting the armed forces.
Further reports indicated that another coordinated attack targeted the town of Solhan. This incident also resulted in numerous casualties, including a commissioned officer. These two separate, devastating incidents in the northern region were confirmed by multiple security channels.
