In Shadows of Boko Haram, a documentary honoured with the Tiger Award at Rotterdam International Film Festival, Cameroonian filmmaker Cyrielle Raingou captures the resilience of children navigating daily life under the looming shadow of terrorism, as families strive to rebuild hope.
These young minds were asked by their teacher what they would sculpt from clay. Their immediate responses? ‘A tank’, ‘A gun’. But the teacher intervened, ‘Let’s remove weapons. We’ll create something from our everyday lives.’ The camera then pans to Cameroonian soldiers in masks, stationed at street corners, rifles ready, ever watchful for unseen threats.
