For three weeks, the African Football Confederation (CAF) has stood by its decision to revoke the hosting rights for CAN 2025 from Senegal, awarding them instead to Morocco following the chaotic conclusion of the final match on January 18 in Rabat. The Lions of Teranga have vehemently opposed this ruling, setting the stage for a legal showdown.
This week, the Senegalese Football Federation officially received the detailed notification from CAF outlining the reasons behind the decision. This formal step clears the way for the Senegalese side to escalate the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), as confirmed by reports from RMC.
cas ruling expected swiftly with no further appeals
The CAF President has already indicated full confidence in the CAS to deliver a final verdict. While the tribunal has not disclosed its timeline, the process is expected to conclude within weeks. This urgency stems from the fact that both Senegal and Morocco will have no further recourse beyond this ruling.
Me Matthieu Reeb, CAS Director General, emphasized the tribunal’s readiness to handle the dispute: «The CAS is fully equipped to resolve sports-related conflicts using specialized and independent arbitrators. We understand the urgency for teams and fans awaiting a resolution and are committed to expediting the process while ensuring a fair hearing for all involved.»
